Overview


To provide a standardised operating system between the relevant computing hardware and mission applications. This environment is intended to allow the hosting of multiple applications on shared computing infrastructure with appropriate isolation.


The Commonwealth seeks to engage a Software Engineer (Advanced Practitioner) to design, develop and implement platform services between the solution and the hosted military applications.


This position is primarily a technical hands-on role with responsibility to develop a compliant standard operating environment with integrated platform services. This will include configuration of the hosting environment, development and integration of platform services applications to meet capability and security requirements.


DELIVERABLES

  • Develop software applications independently or as part of a team.

  • Contribute to software requirements specification and design documentation.

  • Support system troubleshooting activities.

  • Provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide progress updates and advice to management and the development team.

  • Provide other services as tasked.

Specified Personnel


It is highly desirable that the specified personnel has:

  • Experience (greater than 8 years) in software development (C/C++ 11).

  • Experience developing software for Linux operating systems.

  • Experience with publish subscribe middleware (eg. OMG DDS, MQTT or similar).

  • Ability to provide technical advice grounded in the broader business requirement.

The following experience is preferred, but not essential:

  • Experience with military electronic systems integration (eg. Avionics, Naval Combat Systems) or high reliability software development (eg. rail industry systems).

  • Understanding of systems engineering processes.

  • Experience developing technical documentation.

  • Experience working within Agile project management frameworks.

  • Experience with code management tools such as Git.

  • You will report directly to the Systems Architecture Project Manager in order to achieve the required deliverables.
