Task


The Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA) program is developing a Vehicle Standard Operating Environment (VSOE) to provide a standardised operating system between computing hardware and mission applications. This environment is intended to allow the hosting of multiple applications on shared computing infrastructure with appropriate isolation.


Scope of Task


The role is primarily focused on developing the design documentation for the Vehicle Standard Operating Environment (VSOE), as part of the overall GVA Program.

This position is both a design and technical hands-on role with responsibility to assist in the development of a "first of type" solution. This will include configuration of the hosting

environment and development and integration of platform services applications to meet

capability and security requirements. Development will be informed by vehicle and vehicle sub-system needs and work to a staged delivery of minimum viable environments that can be integrated onto vehicle platforms. Note that interstate or international travel may be required


Deliverables

  • Develop High Level Design (HLD) and Detailed Design (DD) documentation;

  • Work with Defence stakeholders to ensure that there are no gaps or inconsistencies in the systems architectural design and the delivered system;

  • Work collaborative with the Design Authority to ensure design acceptance and technical certification are achieved;

  • Develop security aspects of the HLD and DD documents;

  • Review, advise and contribute to the design of system solutions that integrate or interface with the VSOE.

  • Ensure the design aligns with direction and standards in accordance with the GVA Architecture and Integration Framework;

  • Articulate the solution architecture and design to the development team;

  • Manage the evaluation of Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) design alternatives and provide advice to the development team; and

  • Provide other services as tasked the SO2 Land Combat System Architecture.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience (greater than 6 years) in Defence systems design or commensurate Industry experience.

  • Detailed understanding of designing ICT systems. 

  • Experience designing system security of solutions to meet ASD Top 37 and Essential 8.

  • Exposure or experience working with combat systems in Defence (ie. Avionics, Maritime control systems) OR similar Industry experience working with command control systems (ie. Rail systems, civil maritime, avionics or Mining automation).

  • Experience with network integration of systems.

  • Experience with Linux operating systems.

  • Experience developing architectures for virtualised environments.

  • Understanding of TRAMM (L) or Defence technical regulation requirements.

You will report directly to Generic Systems Architectures Project Manager in order to achieve the required deliverables and report to the Design Authority for all design and technical aspects of the role.
