TASK


Are you one of the well-heeled crowd who enjoy the classical art of mainframe programming? This is a great opportunity to advance your knowledge in mainframe systems. Our client, the Australian Passports Office (APO) is looking to bolster their team of Passports Issue and Control System (PICS) mainframe gurus.


As a Junior Mainframe Programmer, you will be required to:

  • Assist with providing mainframe programming services for the Australian Passport Office (APO);

  • Engage with APO and DFAT project teams and assist them regarding PICS services and capabilities;

  • Provide help desk services and support for PICS users within the APO; and

  • Liaise with 3rd party suppliers and service providers.

Opportunities for after-hours support will be provided.


YOUR SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with programming languages in mainframe environments;

  • Experience with using various mainframe software tools and devices;

  • A willingness to learn about new IT systems and services, and to develop your skills further, in particular with PL/1 coding language;

  • An ability to diagnose and solve complex application problems under minimal supervision;

  • Strong communication skills to help liaise with and assist various project teams and system users; and

  • A strong team focus.

SUCCESS CRITERIA

  • Demonstrated skills, experience and qualifications necessary to perform the role to provide mainframe services;

  • Demonstrate a level of willingness to develop skills in PL/1;

  • Willingness to participate in an after-hours support roster.
